Good morning to all. This is my first post so I'll tell you a little about myself. I was born in San Antonio, and was raised on the south side of town. We were poor and lived in my grandma's house. We didn't have a lot, just the basics. My father abused my twin brother and I growing up,but at times he was kind enough to take us to the library downtown, and that's when I discovered Poetry. It was so warm and inviting to read. I remember the first book I read was a collection of poems. It was an older book. Can't remember the name but I was hooked. And as time went by I started to write my own. It was in 7th grade when showed my father the two small books I wrote poetry. My father said that it was dumb and I wouldn't go anywhere with that. So I took those books to the barbecue pit outside and burned them. I never wrote again until 34 years later. I've been waiting for 4 years now and it has been very liberating. At first I was very reluctant, but as I started writing, all of the words started flooding into my brain. I guess the best thing you can take out of all of this is, don't always believe everything people tell you. Especially when it's your family members. I should have seen how much my father didn't like me, and that his words didn't matter. But at the time they did. We need to search inside of ourselves to see what we really want to do and not allow other people to influence us. And of course some of us have figured that out already, and for some of us , it's taken a while. I guess I'll go ahead and end this blog for now. I hope anyone that's reading this will allow themselves to look deep inside of themselves and find their passion, find what they wanted to do for so long and not listen to all of the voices in their head even if it's their own, that they shouldn't do it or that they aren't good enough. We are all good enough. Until next time, be good to yourself.
